Genes in Alcoholic Liver Disease: A Complex Interplay

چکیده

Alcohol-related liver disease is a major public health problem, with varying clinical course and often devastating consequences. Its spectrum can vary from alcohol-related fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma. Multiple environmental, genetic, socio-economic epigenetic factors are intrinsically involved, affecting behavior progression. Recent advances in genome-wide association studies have identified multiple genetic polymorphisms that may affect the pathophysiological process, turn, Although present understanding of this complex process remains nascent at best, there an ardent need to incorporate available markers into diagnostic prognostic algorithms. This pave way for future research targeted therapies.

Advances in alcoholic liver disease.

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) remains a leading cause of death from liver disease in the United States. In studies from the Veterans Administration, patients with cirrhosis and superimposed alcoholic hepatitis had greater than 60% mortality over a 4-year period, with most of those deaths occurring in the first month. Thus, the prognosis for this disease is more ominous than for many common type...

Metabolomics in Alcoholic Liver Disease

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide among the people with alcohol abuse worldwide. Diagnosis of ALD might be clinically challenging as there is no reliable diagnostic “biomarker” that predict and confirm patients at the risk of ALD. As a new promising “omics” in systems biology, metabolomics provides a useful tool for discovering novel molecular s...
